The service, hosted by Zynchros, enables health plans to rapidly implement a formulary query capability on their existing public web-site or member portal, without programming efforts.

The solution provides the capability for members to retrieve accurate formulary information based upon drug name, drug “sounds-like” (to address potential misspelling of drug names) and drug type. Once a member has identified their benefit for a particular drug, the health plan has the opportunity to promote a lower cost alternative drug (where appropriate), and offer the member a printable form to discuss the drug change with their doctor, obtain a free first-fill, reduce their costs through mail order or any other promotional incentive the health plan chooses to define. Suited to both commercial and Medicare Part D formularies, the service meets the CMS Marketing Guidelines for Medicare Part D plan sponsorship and can be customized to match the look and feel of any health plan website.

Member Formulary Hosting is built using a service-oriented architecture which employs web services to communicate between the back-end business data layers and the front-end web hosted interface. Built with Microsoft® Visual Studio®, ASP.NET and Microsoft SQL Server®, the service delivers results based upon the query as dictated by the health plan’s drug formulary corresponding to the members’ benefits. The service can be easily customized to accommodate a variety of additional data sources including MAC lists (for pricing comparison), drug monographs at the patient level, drug images, proprietary therapeutic classification schemes and many other popular data sets.
